Please don’t put plastic bags in your brown bin

Pendle Council is reminding residents not to put plastic bags in their brown bins with their recycling.
Collections of the new brown bins started in some parts of Pendle last week.
Things are going well, but some residents are putting plastic bags in the brown bin along with their plastic bottles, food / drinks cans and glass bottles and jars.
Councillor David, who represents recycling in Pendle, said :
"Plastic bags contaminate the rest of the recycling in the brown bin.
"If you put a plastic bag into your brown bin, it could mean your recycling efforts are wasted.
"Please try to remember not to put any bags in there."
The brown bins are making it easier for many people to recycle.
You don't have to separate your recycling anymore - just put your plastic bottles, glass bottles and jars and food / drinks cans into the brown bin together.
Paper should be put out for recycling in a green box.
Please keep the yellow lid on this box to keep the paper dry.
Cardboard can be put out separately, or in another green box without a lid.
And there's no change to collections of textiles - these can still be put out in the red sack.
Councillor David added :
"If you haven't got your brown bin at home yet, don't worry.
"In total we're delivering over 40,000 so it's taking us a few weeks.
"The initial roll out of brown bins is due to be completed by 2nd October.
"Remember to start using yours straightaway - and please don't put any plastic bags in."
