Spa Experiences for Recycling Winners

Published Monday 14th September 09

25 Pendle people will soon be relaxing at Nelson’s Inside Spa, thanks to the Recycle More for Pendle campaign.

These people are the lucky winners in a prize draw held at each of Pendle Council's recycling roadshows last month.

We held five roadshows in Colne, Barnoldswick, Nelson, Barrowford and Brierfield.

People were asked to fill in a survey at the roadshows to give their views on recycling and comment on the Council's publicity to promote the new brown bins.

There was a top prize for each event of a Rasul mud spa treatment at Inside Spa.

And four runners-up from each event have won a pair of Inside Spa passes.

All the prizes were kindly donated by Pendle Leisure Trust which runs the spa at Wavelengths in Nelson.

Councillor John David will present the winners with their prizes this Friday, 18th September, at 4pm.

The prize presentation will be in the Members' Room at Nelson Town Hall.

Councillor David, who represents recycling in Pendle, said :

"Our recycling roadshows were a real success.

"Everyone who came along and filled in a survey form said that they had found the roadshows useful.

"And what's really encouraging is that 100% of people who gave us their views said that they agree it's important to recycle.

"The roadshows gave local residents the chance to ask us questions about the changes to the recycling collections and the new brown bins.

"Hundreds of people came out to talk to us. Many of them wanted to have a look at the two sizes of brown wheelie bin.

"Some took the opportunity to put their names down for a smaller brown bin."

Fence resident Anne Callaghan asked the Council to deliver her and many of her neighbours a smaller brown bin.

She said :

"We're able to accommodate a smaller brown bin better, and it will be easier to move them around.

"My husband and I put out and take in our neighbours' bins as well as our own.

"We're really keen on recycling on our road!"

The arrival of over 40,000 brown bins is set to make recycling a whole lot easier.

Homes in Pendle are getting a new brown wheelie bin, into which go empty plastic bottles, food and drinks cans, glass bottles and jars.

The new brown bins are currently being delivered - start using yours as soon as it arrives.
