Don't forget to register to vote

Published Tuesday 8th September 09

Pendle people are being reminded that they must return their voter registration forms.

56% of households in Pendle have so far responded to the annual voter registration process.

Of the 40,000 households that were sent forms last month, 22,000 have responded so far.

9,000 households used the telephone, internet or text service to register.

Registration by telephone, internet or text reduces the number of forms that are returned by post, making it a much cheaper and more efficient process.

But the telephone, internet or text service can only be used where households do not have any changes to the details pre-printed on their forms.

If changes need to be made, then the form should be amended, signed and sent back in the return post envelope.

Gillian Hartley, Pendle Council's Elections Manager, said:

"We are pleased with the level of response so far.

"But there are still over 17,000 households in Pendle who have yet to return their forms.

"We ask them to do so as soon as possible - it only takes a few minutes.

"We are sending them reminders this week, and then will make personal visits where necessary."

By law households have to provide this information to their local council.

If you do not provide the information or give false information, then you could be fined up to £1,000.

For further information, or if you need help with the form, contact the Elections Office on (01282) 661919.
