The Brown Bins are Being Delivered!
Published Friday 28th August 09
People living in Earby and Barnoldswick will be the first to take delivery of their brown bins on 1st September.
We will be delivering over 40,000 brown bins across Pendle between 1st September and 2nd October.
And if you have already asked us for a smaller brown bin, look out for it arriving by 2nd October.
Councillor John David, Pendle's recycling spokesperson, said :
"Start using your brown bin as soon as it arrives. We'll empty it on your next recycling collection day.
"The brown bins are going to make it so much easier for us all to recycle.
"Put your glass bottles and jars, your plastic bottles and your food/drinks cans into your brown bin - but no plastic bags please!
"Use your green box for paper - remembering to keep the yellow lid on to keep it dry.
"Put your cardboard out for collection in a cardboard box, or an extra green box - but please leave the lid off when you put it out for collection."
Among the first Pendle residents to receive their brown bins is Elaine Smith of Earby.
She said :
"We're 100% happy with the recycling service - it's brilliant!
Our granddaughters help to do the recycling when they're at our house so we're glad they've been involved in the campaign.
"We certainly won't miss the blue bags for plastic bottles - they could be a real pain blowing about in windy weather."
Elaine's granddaughter Emily Plum, who lives in Sough, modelled for the Recycle More for Pendle communications campaign.
Her photograph has already been used in local press advertising about the new recycling collections.
And Emily will appear on bus shelters in Earby and Barnoldswick later in September.
Emily said :
"I've never done anything like this before - it's been fun!"
You can keep up to date with where the bins are being delivered by joining the Facebook group Recycle More for Pendle.
Carole Taylor, Waste Services Manager, said :
"We've set up a group on Facebook for people who prefer online communications to keep up to date with the recycling collections.
"During September we'll be updating the group every day to show which areas we have delivered the brown bins to.
"Keep an eye on this and if you have any queries about your brown bin delivery, give us a call on 01282 661743."
