The General Election is on its way - look out for your right to vote!

Published Tuesday 11th August 09

Your Electoral Registration form will be dropping through your door in the next two weeks.

You must deal with it straight away to make sure you don't lose your right to vote.

It only takes a few minutes.

Gillian Hartley, Pendle Council's Elections Manager, said :

"When you get the form, you need to check that the details on it about the people who live at your address are all correct.

"If they are no changes, just confirm this to us as soon as possible.

"You can do this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by telephone, text message or on the internet.

"The simple instructions are set out on the form.

"We can reassure you that all these methods are fully secure.

"Of course, you can use the more traditional method of posting back your form to us, if you prefer.

"And where the details on the form have changed, you must write in the changes, sign it and return it to us by post.

"You don't need to use a stamp."

A general election will be held soon. If your name is not included in the register, you will not be able to vote in this, or any other, elections.

You may also find it difficult to get a mortgage or credit, or to open a bank account.

If you do not provide the information or you give false information, then you could be fined up to £1,000.

If you don't receive an electoral registration form by the middle of September, contact the Elections Office on (01282) 661919 or elections@pendle.gov.uk.
