Application to create a Town Green in Barnoldswick
Published Thursday 12th March 09
Moves to create a Town Green in Barnoldswick could move a step closer if Pendle Council’s Executive gives proposals the green light.
Members will consider West Craven Committee's request that an application should be made to register land on Fernlea Avenue as a Town Green.
The application to Lancashire County Council would mean the land is protected from any future development.
And it would guarantee that residents will always have access to green space.
Councillor David Whipp explained that the creation of a Town Green means that the open space is protected forever.
He said: "We have some fantastic parks and open spaces in Pendle for residents to enjoy. These have a very positive effect on local communities.
"If this application is given the go ahead, the town will be delighted to know that future generations will be able to enjoy the open space."
The Executive will discuss this recommendation at its meeting on Thursday 19th March.
