Demolition Work Begins in Bradley, Brierfield and Colne

Published Friday 13th February 09

Contractors are working to clear three key sites in Pendle as part of the Council’s Housing Market Renewal initiative.

This week they began work in Brierfield's Canal Corridor and Bradley.

Demolition work had already started in Bright Street, Colne.

The sites are being cleared in preparation for a combination of new housing and green space/parkland.

Pendle's Housing Programmes Manager Julie Palmer said: "The properties need to be cleared before new development work can begin. Some of the stone and slate is being salvaged and retained to be re-used in the new developments and landscaping works."

She continued: "Our contractors will work to keep noise and nuisance levels to a minimum."

The purchase of the properties and demolition work is funded through Elevate, Pennine Lancashire's Housing Market Renewal agency.

In Brierfield work started on February 10 on the Clitheroe Road site.

Contractors Howard Stott Demolition are expected to take two months to complete demolition of some 94 terraced properties, in preparation for a flagship new housing development by Miller Regeneration.

The first streets to be demolished will be Belgrave Street and Claremont Street.

In Bright Street, Colne, contractors Andrew Connolly expect to complete demolition work of both sides of the street by the end of March. It's intended the site will accommodate a new park/square and two blocks of new houses.

In Bradley, Stott Demolition has the task of demolishing the blocks of terraced properties at 22 - 50 Cooper Street and one side of Giles Street, (numbers 2 - 18), over the next two months.  Again the cleared sites will be used for new housing and green space.
