Lend a helping hand to your neighbours

Published Thursday 9th February 12

With widespread frosts, ice and a further risk of snow forecast for the next few weeks, Pendle Council is reminding local people to be good neighbours and help those less able.

They're asking local residents to spare a thought for people they know who may struggle in icy weather and offer practical help where they can.

Councillor Jonathan Eyre, Pendle Council's Climate Change champion, is helping to spread the message. He said:

"The nights may be getting lighter, but winter isn't over yet!

"And icy conditions are a particular problem for people with mobility issues.

"Helping vulnerable neighbours by offering to do shopping or transporting them to places they need to go can provide a lifeline in sub-zero conditions."

If you'd like to help someone, but don't know anyone who is in need of support, Lancashire County Council's Help Direct can identify people in your area.

They operate a buddy system which links people up all year round.

Likewise, if you're a person who would benefit from assistance during cold spells or for any other reason, contact Help Direct.
