Flood protection work and temporary closure of Scotland Road

Published Thursday 2nd February 12

Scotland Road is to be closed to traffic between Fountain Street and Clayton Street during improvements to local sewers.

The new scheme will see United Utilities create a new, larger sewer beneath Scotland Road, running between Fountain Street and Clayton Street.

Work is due to start on the 13th February, and last until the end of April. During the work, Scotland Road will be closed to traffic between Fountain Street and Clayton Street, with traffic diverted via Leeds Road and Reedyford Road (see below for map of affected area).

Several local homes which are vulnerable to internal flooding will be better protected as a result of the scheme, while other households in the area will also benefit from a reduced risk of sewers spilling onto local highways and pavements.
