Flat cap salute to Lancashire Day
Published Tuesday 22nd November 11
Nelson's Scotland Road traders have lots to offer for Lancashire Day on Saturday 26th November. There'll also be free entertainment with live music and the amazing Granny Turismo.
Best Senior Town Crier in the North West, Councillor Tony Beckett, is in fine voice to "Oyez" Nelson's Scotland Road traders in a warm up for Lancashire Day.
Traders will be donning Victorian waistcoats and traditional flat caps and flaunting red roses by the Nelson shuttle sculpture in a salute to the event on Saturday 26 November.
Councillor Tony Beckett said:
"Nelson's is the biggest Lancashire Day in the county and we've got a fantastic fun-packed free day of entertainment!"
The funny and outrageous Turismo Granny trio of Marge, Doris and Mary will be back in town on their souped up shopping trolleys.
Vaughan Jones, Pendle Council's Tourism and Community Initiatives Manager said:
"They took the town by storm during the official re-opening this summer.
"People are still talking about them - so don't miss their return visit including a surprising new twist!"

In addition to entertainment from the Britannia Coconutters, live music and Lancashire history events at Nelson Library, there'll be a special poster trail in Scotland Road shops.
People are invited to seek out Lancashire themed clues with special prizes which will be given out on stage later in the day.
"And the rewards don't stop there," added Vaughan. "Participating Scotland Road traders are doing special offers on Lancashire Day so don't miss out.
"For example, Hartley's Electrical and J & M Hardware are offering a huge 10% off.
"Turners Jewellers are doing their first ever up to half price sale whilst Oscar's are offering customers a complimentary brew and mince pie," he added.
Traders there will be opening late until 6pm to coincide with the Christmas lights official switch on at 6pm.
"Visitors and Pendle residents will be able to see the transformed heart of Nelson in a completely new light," said Councillor Jonathan Eyre who leads on tourism and leisure.
"Key buildings like the clock tower light up in different colours at night and the Nelson Shuttle is illuminated from the inside.
"There are fairy lights in the trees we've planted around our attractive new amphitheatre and boulevard.
"With the addition of Christmas lighting, the effect will be really magical and Nelson Brass Band will play seasonal music to get us in the mood for the festive season," he added.
Councillor Nadeem Younis, who chairs the Nelson Committee said:
"We're delighted to support Lancashire Day and the Christmas lights switch on by funding an ice rink so that people can get into the seasonal spirit."
Visitors don't need to worry if it's chilly, as there'll be hot food and drinks in town and the ACE Centre Bistro will be providing traditional Lancashire fare.
