Get ready for a fairytale Christmas in Barnoldswick
Published Friday 11th November 11
Barnoldswick's Christmas season is set for a fairytale beginning on Saturday during the town's Switch On event at 6pm.
Spectacular giant lanterns based on fairytale characters will be paraded around town centre streets as the lights come on.
The lanterns have been made by local families at workshops during recent weeks at the Rainhall Centre. They include a giant pumpkin carriage, unicorn, ogre, wolf, white mice and lots of other fairytale figures. Residents of all ages are being encouraged to take part in the parade by dressing in fairytale costumes for the procession. There'll also be a chance to make light up swords and wands during workshops on the day.
Before the parade, the town centre will be alive with an afternoon of free, family friendly fun featuring a Santa's Grotto for young children, a covered live music stage, free donkey rides, school choirs, fairground rides and a chance to win 'Barlick Gold' in the town's Art Trail.
The festivities begin at 12 noon. Santa will be in his grotto during the afternoon. The lantern parade, led by a New Orleans style band, will switch on the lights will be between 6pm and 6.30pm followed by a final set from the headline act on the music stage until 7pm.
Organised by Barnoldswick Town Council with support from Pendle Council, the event celebrates the switch on of thousands of Christmas lights provided by the two councils. The display includes 160 shop front trees erected by town council volunteers.
The town's seasonal events continue in December with a Christmas Windows competition.
