Committed to improving our trade waste and recycling collections

Pendle Council's Executive Councillors will endorse the Council’s commitment to trade waste and recycling at their meeting on Thursday 17th November.
Pendle Council has signed up to the Local Authority Business Recycling and Waste Services Commitment.
This commitment, put together by WRAP, aims to help councils improve the satisfaction of their business customers with how their rubbish and recycling is collected.
The commitment sets out 12 principles which WRAP says should underlie a business recycling and waste service.
Councillor James Starkie, Executive Member for Waste, said:
"Signing up to the Business Recycling and Waste Services Commitment shows that we are committed to ensuring our trade waste and recycling collection service offers customers real value for money.
"We aim to be competitive in our pricing and provide a high quality, value for money collection service."
Pendle Council now offers a borough-wide trade recycling collection service for paper and cardboard, in addition to its refuse collection service.
Following a trial among Colne businesses, the Council has expanded its trade recycling collections to the whole borough.
The move has already been welcomed by Pendle businesses.
Kat Weatherill from The Florists Barrowford said:
"Anything the Council can do to help small, independent businesses like mine to recycle is fantastic.
"Since our business opened two and a half years ago, it's always concerned me that we were unable to easily recycle much of our waste.
"As you would expect from a florist's, we produce green waste, as well as paper and card.
"But private trade waste and recycling companies are just too expensive for a small business like ours.
"The Council's recycling collection service suits smaller, independent business perfectly."
David Walker, Waste Services Manager, added:
"We're trying to make it easier for Pendle businesses to recycle, which is something our customers have been telling us they'd appreciate our help with.
"Having successfully trialled the collection of co-mingled paper and cardboard with our customers in Colne, we now feel that, with the publication of the revised Waste Framework Directive, we should offer the collection service to all businesses in Pendle.
"We aim to make it affordable for businesses to recycle as much as they can. As a Council, we're committed to doing all we can to boost recycling rates and reduce waste being sent to landfill."
The Council offers a variety of bin and skip sizes for both paper, card and non-recyclable materials.
We can also tailor any service to the needs of the individual business, as well as providing information on the disposal of other materials.
