How we've spent your money

Pendle Council's accounts have been given a clean bill of health!
The Council must by law follow a code of practice when preparing and publishing its accounts.
This ensures it gives a true and fair view of its operations during the year and financial standing.
The latest Statement of Accounts highlight the Council's income and what it spent between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011.
Dean Langton the Council's Head of Finance, explained: "Amongst other things, the Statement of Accounts tells residents about our financial performance.
"The Statement, which has been independently audited, tells residents what it cost to deliver services and where we got the money from to pay for those services.
"It also states what assets and liabilities the Council had at the end of the year."
In terms of Value for Money, the external auditors acknowledge the Council has sound systems and processes to manage financial risks and opportunities effectively.
And that it's prioritising resources within tighter budgets and achieving cost reductions by improving efficiency and productivity.
Councillor Linda Crossley who oversees the Council's finances, added: "This is great news!
"We've received external validation that our accounts are prepared properly and that we continue to provide good value for money.
"It means that proper accounting practices have been followed and that arrangements have been made for securing economy, efficiency and effectiveness in the use of the Council's resources."
The accounts were approved by the Accounts and Audit Committee on September 29th and are now available to see online:
