Published Tuesday 20th September 11

Pendle is up for five awards at the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards 2011/12 this week.

Those shortlisted include Pendle Council's own entry of the hugely successful Walking Festival for the Marketing Campaign of the Year award.

The other shortlisted candidates are:

  • Dam Head Barn, Nelson for B and B of the Year

  • Thornton Hall Farm Country Park, Thornton-in-Craven for Small Visitor Attraction of the Year

  • Ye Old Sparrowhawk Inn, Fence for the Taste Lancashire Award

  • Discover Pendle Centre at Boundary Mill for Visitor Information Provider.

"Having five shortlisted entrants for Pendle when over 170 organisations have entered shows the high quality of tourism businesses we have here," said Mike Williams, the Council's Tourism Officer.

"Pendle can be justly proud and I hope we come back with some trophies on Thursday," he added.

Councillor Jonathan Eyre, who leads on tourism, said:

"I'm really delighted that our own Walking Festival has been shortlisted for the way we've marketed the event.

"It's thanks to a team effort from our Tourism Team and Communications Team in attracting people to Pendle from across the UK and even as far afield as Canada!

"Having a dedicated team of volunteers and tourism businesses to look after our visitors is vital for our Walking Festival's success too.

"We're also indebted to the staff who work with us so enthusiastically at the Discover Pendle Centre, they certainly deserve to be shortlisted and to win!"

The award ceremony is being held at Blackpool Pleasure Beach this Thursday, 22 September 2011.
