You 'can' now recycle cans and plastic bottles together across Pendle

Published Tuesday 13th September 11

Eight new recycling banks across Pendle are making it easier for residents to recycle their plastic bottles and food and drinks cans together.

The new, larger recycling banks have been placed alongside those for glass, shoes and textiles in eight locations across the area, some of which also take paper and cardboard.

The banks replace separate skips for plastic and cans at various supermarkets and car parks across the area.

Plus, as each bank can contain more bottles and cans, the areas around them are set to be much tidier.

Councillor James Starkie, Executive Member for Waste, said:

"Residents can still recycle plastic bottles and cans at home in their brown bin. However, as the banks across Pendle are well used, we will continue to provide this service as well.

"Previously the black skips for plastic bottles often overflowed, with bags of bottles just dumped all around them.

"These new recycling banks are bigger, and they take plastic bottles and food and drinks cans together.

"What's more, because of their size, we can save money by emptying them less often - continuing our mission to cut the costs, not the service."

The eight new recycling banks are in the following locations:

  • B&Q, Brierfield
  • Morrison's, Nelson
  • Goitside car park, Nelson
  • ASDA, Colne
  • Sainsbury's, Colne
  • Dockray Street car park, Colne
  • Boot Street car park, Earby
  • Co-operative, Barnoldswick

The Council has removed the skips formerly used for recycling plastic bottles at these sites.
