The Mayor of Pendle invites you on a tour of Nelson Town Hall

Published Wednesday 24th August 11

His Worship the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, invites you to join him on a guided tour of Nelson Town Hall.

Following the example set by previous Mayors, Councillor Ahmed is inviting in anyone with an interest in what takes place behind the doors of the Town Hall.

Councillor Ahmed said:

"So far in my mayoral year I've hosted tours for a handful of local school groups. I've really enjoyed showing them around and answering their questions about local government and democracy.

"Now I'm inviting in anyone who wants to find out more about how a modern council operates.

"For the majority of people who come along on a Town Hall tour, it's their first time in the building.

"It's a great opportunity to learn about its fascinating civic history.

"Our next tour is on Saturday 10th September - why not book a place and see behind the scenes for yourself?"

Michael Booth, the Mayor's Attendant, will be the guide for the free, two hour long journey through history.

Visitors will be shown the old Police cells, the Council Chamber and civic insignia before having tea and biscuits in the Members' Room.

As well as seeing behind the scenes of the Town Hall, you can discover how the present day Pendle Council runs and what the Mayor's job entails.

Groups, such as Women's Institutes, Brownies, Scouts and voluntary organisations, as well as individuals, are all welcome.

Up to 20 people can be accommodated on each tour.

If you are interested in coming along on a Town Hall tour, please contact the Mayor's Secretary, Fiona Standring, on (01282) 661636 or fiona.standring@pendle.gov.uk.
