Grab yourself a duck for Valley Gardens Summer Fayre!

Published Thursday 23rd June 11

The Valley Gardens Working Group is busy selling ducks for the race in this year's Summer Fayre on Saturday 25th June.

Look out for them and their paddling pool of ducks in Barnoldswick town centre on Saturday 18th June and hook your duck for just £1.

Volunteers from the Working Group will be selling ducks on the Town Square between 10am and 12.30pm.

The duck race is the grand finale to the annual Valley Gardens Summer Fayre.

Over three hundred ducks will race along the beck from the bridge near to the Gospel Mission church from 2.30pm on 25th June.

The free event has been organised by the Valley Gardens Working Group, in conjunction with Pendle Council's Environmental & Recreation Services.

It runs from 12pm till 3pm on Saturday 25th June at Valley Gardens , off Gisburn Road , Barnoldswick.

The event will have many other attractions suitable for the whole family, from an owl display to a magic show.

And there's a children's fancy dress competition too.

They can dress as anything that takes their fancy and the best dressed will win a family ticket to Thornton Hall Farm.

Children can also have a go at kite making and join in an Origami workshop.

Refreshments will be available at the event.

Hazel Nutter, Chair of the Valley Gardens Working Group, said:

"Last year's event was a great success and we're hoping to build on that this year.

"The money we raise through the event will go straight back into the gardens.

"We're currently making plans for an orchard so will use the money to buy a number of fruit trees that will thrive in the gardens' conditions."

Councillor Jonathan Eyre, who represents Parks and Leisure in Pendle, said:

"This annual event in Valley Gardens is a wonderful showcase for this Green Flag park.

"And it is a credit to the Working Group who work very hard voluntarily to organise and run the event."
