Track down ‘treasure’ in Pendle

Published Saturday 28th May 11

Get on the Pendle Treasure Trail and win a weekend break at the Oaks Hotel in Reedley!

"Pendle's packed full of great heritage attractions and facts about famous people who have left their impression on the area," said Mike Williams, Tourism Officer at Pendle Council.

"That's why we compile the annual Pendle Treasure Trail, a quiz with ten questions, each about a different attraction.

"It showcases the many interesting and fun places there are to visit in Pendle - and sets our visitors a challenge while they're here!"

For example, while visiting the Foulridge Canal Wharf , visitors have to spot the name of the boat on which they can take a cruise down the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

And on a trip to Colne town centre, they must keep their eyes peeled for a glimpse of the sculpted head of a famous bandmaster who hailed from the town.

You can find details of the Treasure Trail in the 2011 Pendle Visitor Guide.

The Guide contains all ten questions in the Treasure Trail and a map to help you take part, with quality eating places marked out along the route.

Councillor Jonathan Eyre, who represents tourism in Pendle, said:

"We have featured the Pendle Treasure Trail in this year's Visitor Guide.

"It's a great way of showing potential visitors what a fascinating place Pendle is and just how much there is to see and do here.

"Tourism is worth £78 million a year to the local economy, and promoting Pendle through things like the Treasure Trail is vital to this.

"Last year we received lots of entries to the competition to win a stay at the Oaks Hotel, so we know it's popular with our visitors.

"The winner in last year's competition comes from Beverley, West Yorkshire ; it's great that they'll be paying Pendle another visit to take up their prize.

"Pendle residents can also join in the fun by encouraging family and friends from other areas to take part - and pay them a visit as they do!

"We have plenty of great visitor accommodation in Pendle, from small and friendly B&Bs, to the lovely Oaks Hotel."
