Kids get crafty in Victoria Park!

Published Thursday 12th May 11

A popular Nelson park will be full of crafty kids on Saturday 21st May, all at the invitation of the Friends of Victoria Park.

The group, working with Pendle Council's Parks & Recreation service and the Beacon Children's Centre, has organised a fun craft event for children aged up to 12 years.

There'll be plenty of activity in the area around the bandstand where children can have a go at clay modelling and make masks, kites and peg dollies.

They can also make their own paper flowers - and plant nasturtium seeds to try and grow the real things!

Or if they want to eat what they grow, they can opt for planting some pea or runner bean seeds.

And if they bring along a little of their spending money, they can have a go on the tombola - all the prizes will be suitable for children in this age group.

Carole Devlin, the Chairperson of the Friends of Victoria Park, said:

"We've organised the event with a view to encouraging children to have respect for their local park and to just come down and have fun together."

Julie Hibbert, Parks Outreach Officer at Pendle Council, said:

"We're happy to help the Friends of Victoria Park stage this event.

"They've put plenty of hard work into organising it; now all they need is some good weather on the day - fingers crossed!"

The Hands On For Kids event starts at 1pm and runs until 4pm on Saturday 21st May.

Entry to the event costs just £1 per child - then they can take part in as many craft activities as they like!

Refreshments will also be available.
