Pendle Borough Council

Be ready to use your vote

Published Tuesday 26th April 11

Pendle Council is encouraging residents to use their votes in Thursday's elections to the Borough Council and Parish and Town Councils.

Stephen Barnes, Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Pendle, said:

"It's so important that everyone uses their vote on 5th May to have their say in electing the councillors they want to represent them on all sorts of issues - from rubbish and recycling to how our town centres are regenerated."

Voter turnout in last year's elections to Pendle Council was 66%, with the turnout in the parliamentary election 68%.

Don't waste your vote; go along to your polling station on 5th May between 7am and 10pm to have your say.

Gillian Hartley, Elections Manager at Pendle Council, said:

"To find out who is standing for election in your ward and to find your polling station, go to www.pendle.gov.uk/elections.

"There's also a step by step guide of what to do if you're a first time voter or haven't voted in a while. Our polling station staff will also be happy to explain things to you.

"Please remember to go to the polling station printed on the poll card that was delivered to your home - you can't choose where to go to cast your vote."

This year there will be Borough Council elections in 17 of Pendle's 20 wards.

Councillors on 19 Parish and Town Councils and wards will be up for election too.

Stephen Barnes is also encouraging electors to vote in the UK Parliamentary Voting Referendum which will also be held on 5th May.

The count of the votes in the Borough and Parish Council will start at 9am on Friday 6th May.

They'll be published on the Council website http://www.pendle.gov.uk/ as they are announced.

And they'll also be published on the Council's Twitter and Facebook profiles live from the count.

Stephen Barnes added:

"These social media, together with our own website, help us to reach people directly with the results as they are announced via their computers and mobile phones."
