Thanks for your help with brown bin collections!

“Thanks to the many Pendle residents who are waiting until their brown bins are half full or more before putting them out for collection,” said Carole Taylor, Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator.
Pendle Council recycling crews have reported that fewer bins that are less than half full are being put out for the fortnightly recycling collections, following the launch of a campaign last month.
The Council is asking residents to consider how much recycling is in their brown bins before putting them out.
The message is: if you can wait until the next collection to have your bin emptied, then please don't put it out.
Carole explained:
"We're trying to make our recycling vehicle rounds more efficient.
"By only emptying brown bins when they are half full or more, our crews will collect fewer bins each day.
"Whilst we realise the vehicles will still cover the same routes, this will mean that fewer wagons are needed.
"And this will help us to reduce our carbon footprint and save money on fuel costs."
While the campaign has been a success in encouraging Pendle residents to wait until their bins are at least half full before putting them out for collection, there are still issues with contamination in the bins.
The brown bins are just for plastic bottles, cans and glass bottles/jars.
But some residents put other types of recycling in there, such as paper and card, which should go in the green box.
And they also use the brown bins for all kinds of plastics, such as food trays, yoghurt pots, butter and margarine tubs and plastic bags - things we can't currently recycle in Pendle.
Carole added:
"Please just put plastic bottles into your brown bin, together with your cans and glass bottles and jars.
"Otherwise you risk your bin not being emptied by the crews because of contamination."
For further clarification of what goes into the brown bins, please refer to the annual recycling/refuse calendar, which was delivered to all homes in Pendle last November.
