St George's Day to be celebrated in Colne
Published Thursday 31st March 11
Pendle residents are getting ready to mark St George's Day with a special festival in Colne.
On Saturday 23rd April Colne town centre will host a free family event with music and entertainment between 1pm and 8pm.
The town centre will come alive to mark the day of England's patron saint, St George.
Bands playing a range of music including folk, pop, rock and blues will entertain visitors from a stage alongside the market.
Headliners will be Vicky and the Big Combo, and Diva Dynamics.
There will even be some local talent performing on the stage too, in the shape of Andrea Louise and Katie Cruz.
For the children there will be a variety of children's rides, face painting and free donkey rides.
There's even a George and the dragon themed costume competition - with prizes for the best medieval fancy dress at 2pm outside the library!
Why not dress up the kids, or even the whole family?
Mike Williams, Tourism Officer at Pendle Council, said:
"There's going to be such a buzz in the town centre on St George's Day, and we hope to attract people from further afield who want to mark their patron saint's day with a fun day out.
"There will be so much going on to keep folk of all ages entertained, and music of different styles to appeal to everyone."
The St George's Day festival has been organised by Pendle Council and funding has come from our tourism events fund.
