Spreading the word about Pendle as a great visitor destination

The Guide has just been published and was officially launched today by Councillor Jonathan Eyre, Pendle Council's Executive Member for Tourism.

Councillor Eyre said:

"As someone who has lived in Pendle all his life, I'm very proud to be officially launching Pendle's Visitor Guide.

"Pendle has such a lot to offer, and the Visitor Guide showcases it beautifully. It's a very important tool in encouraging people to visit Pendle.

"Tourism is worth £78 million a year to the local economy - promoting Pendle is vital to this.

"The area has so many fantastic places to visit and there are lots of things to do.

"We do our very best to make sure as many people as possible know about them, and come to experience them.

"Of course, our area is well known for its amazing scenery, and nearly everyone has heard of the famous Pendle Witches. Today you can follow in their 400 year old footsteps on the Pendle Witches Trail."

The 32 page Visitor Guide contains all that Pendle has to offer, from walks and events to attractions and accommodation.

The guide focuses on ideas for places to visit, including Pendle Heritage Centre, Witches Galore and Bancroft Mill.

There's also room for the smaller, unique attractions like the British in India Museum and Earby Lead Mining Museum.

The Guide also contains a section on the great outdoors with information on walks and events, such as the annual, and hugely successful, Pendle Walking Festival.

And it would not be complete without tips on where to stay, with a choice ranging from an award-winning leisure hotel to cosy self-catering cottages.

New in the guide for 2011 is the Pendle Treasure Trail, which is a fun way of exploring the area by answering clues as you travel around. There's a prize of a luxury weekend break at The Oaks Hotel for one of the trail's lucky entrants.

Mike Williams, the Council's Tourism Team Leader, added :

"We distribute the Visitor Guide to all Tourist Information Centres in the country to encourage people to come and see Pendle for themselves.

"It is also available from Pendle's Tourist Information Centres at Boundary Mill and Pendle Heritage Centre."
