Nelson’s new Post Office celebrated its official opening last Friday at 10.00am.
Their Worships the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle, Councillor Tony and Mrs Margaret Becket attended the ceremony.
Pendle's MP Andrew Stephenson was also there to congratulate businessman Mr Vali, who has opened the Post Office franchise.
The Mayor of Pendle Councillor Tony Beckett said:
"It's bringing some welcome Christmas cheer into town."
"Local residents can bring their parcels and Christmas cards for posting to their friends and relatives across the country - and enjoy award winning customer service."
Since the new Post Office opened a few months ago, Mr Vali has already won a prestigious award for Customer Satisfaction in Large Post Offices - beating off the likes of Blackpool and Blackburn!
Pendle Council's Director for Regeneration Brian Cookson explained:
"The Post Office was the first business to open on the former Woolworths site.
"A well managed, high quality post office in a good location can have wide benefits in a town." he said.
Since the post office's arrival earlier this year, Store 21 opened next door on the site which is opposite the Pendle Rise Shopping Centre.
And this December the national frozen food shop Fulton Foods opened the next new business in that run of shops.
"All three new shops including the Post Office are playing a part in putting the heart back into Nelson.
"Many towns still have empty Woolworths' shops and I'm delighted to say that Nelson has done better.
"Our town still faces challenges. But these new shops in the town centre are adding to the radical improvement which the new road and landscaping through Nelson will bring," he added.
Councillor Nadeem Younis who chairs Nelson Area Committee said:
"I'm thrilled to welcome the new award winning Post Office to Nelson Town Centre.
"Pendle Council supported the improvements to the new Post Office thanks to a Premises Improvement Grant from the Nelson Area Committee.
The new high quality Post Office is another string in the bow of local businessman Mr Vali. He has an excellent track record in Post Office success and currently manages two other award winning Pendle Post Offices in Barnoldswick and Colne.
Mr Vali already has plans for the rest of his Post Office in Nelson, which may include a deli and sandwich bar.
