Let's Do Art Stuff In Nelson

Published Thursday 23rd September 10

Anyone and everyone will have the chance to explore their creative side in Nelson throughout the coming week.

Local artists are running an exciting week-long project entitled "Let's do art stuff in Nelson" where people from all over Pendle can come and join in a large variety of art workshops.

The scheme is funded by the "High street revival fund" which aims to get empty shops in the town centre back into use. The main location for the workshops is the empty shop at 8 Manchester Road , Nelson, where there will be things going on every day from Saturday, September 25th to Saturday, October 2nd.

The event promises something for everyone, with a huge and diverse range of activities on offer.

Budding painters can get involved in pavement art, stencil art and abstract painting. There will be opportunities to use your body in artwork, with face-painting classes and sculpture workshops which will use moulds of hands and feet to create a masterpiece.

Other artists will be creating things using different resources. Linda Erliz will be demonstrate how to make a lantern from willow and tissue paper, whilst Charlotte Carmen invites anyone who likes a bit of fun to make a "Little Drifter" to float in the pond. There will also be a chance to learn how to improve your digital photography using software such as Photoshop at a workshop held in the library.

A Deli sculpture class will show that just about anything can be used to make art, including Indian food stuffs. Everyone is welcome to join in as artist Jose Antony makes a giant Chapatti Elephant Sculpture in one of the final sessions next Saturday.

It is hoped that the project will encourage many local people to try new things that they normally wouldn't do. People of all ages can turn up to the workshops, which are completely free and will be running every day except Sunday. For more information on workshop times please call 661677.
