Confidence building opportunity for Brierfield and Reedley
Published Wednesday 22nd September 10
Nelson and Colne College has joined forces with NHS East Lancashire and Brierfield Health Centre to run a course on confidence building.
Brierfield and Reedley Connecting Communities Group is supporting the course, which is mainly aimed at people in the local community who need to build up their confidence and self-esteem.
The course will run for three hours a term at Brierfield Community Centre, starting on Wednesday, 29th September, between 1pm and 4pm.
Brenda Begley, Centre Manager for Briercliffe Primary Care Centre and Brierfield Health Centre, said: "The course is designed to help build your confidence and learn new skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
"Each session will have a different focus, including an introduction to art skills, healthy living, as well as confidence building.
"Anyone who feels they could benefit from the course is welcome to attend."
The course is being supported by the Connecting Communities programme, managed by Neighbourhood Management, and has backing from Pendle Partnership, Pendle's Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).
Connecting Communities is a major initiative which has been set up to address some of the issues with community cohesion in Brierfield and Reedley.
Sara Mumby, Pendle Council's Brierfield Neighbourhood Manager, said: "This course is perfect for what we are currently trying to do in Brierfield and Reedley. This includes addressing some of the root causes to the problems we have, such as people from different backgrounds not getting on as well together, compared to other areas in Pendle.
"Building up people's confidence, so they feel they can have more of an active part in the community, is all part of what we are trying to achieve."
Councillor John David, Chair of Pendle Partnership's Sustainable Places group, of which Connecting Communities is a sub-group, said: "This course is a fantastic opportunity for people to build up their confidence, and is bound to have an effect on their quality of life and the people around them."
