Pendle Community Safety Partnership meetings are for everyone!

Published Wednesday 1st September 10

Pendle Community Safety Partnership is urging unrepresented groups in the community to have their say at its meetings.

Residents of all ages and backgrounds are reminded that they are welcome to attend Pendle Community Safety Partnership Working Group meetings in their area.

The Area Working Group meetings allow residents to listen to the latest crime statistics and have a say about Police and Community Together (PACT) priorities in their neighbourhood.

They can also raise concerns or ask for advice in relation to any community safety matter, for example, anti-social behaviour or speeding traffic.

Chairman of Pendle Community Safety Partnership, Councillor David Whipp, said: "Many people come along to our regular meetings and play a part in helping make their areas safer for everyone, but we think there's room for improvement.

"We'd welcome more Asian residents at the working groups so that all communities are contributing to the work we're doing.

"We want everyone in Pendle to know that they have a voice and can make a real difference to their area."

The meetings are usually held every six weeks in five areas of Pendle, including Nelson (Thursdays), Colne and District (Tuesdays), West Craven (Wednesdays), Brierfield and Reedley (Wednesdays), and Barrowford and Western Parishes (Mondays).

Listen to Pendle Community Radio (103.1 fm) on Thursday, 9th September at 1.30 pm when Geoff Whitehead, Manager of Pendle Community Safety Partnership, will be explaining more about the meetings.

He said: "The meetings are an ideal chance for residents to bring issues concerning them to our attention and let us know how we can help improve their quality of life.

"If people don't tell us their concerns, we can't help them.

"We want residents to know that they have somewhere to go with their issues and that we need to work together in order to make a difference."

The first to meet this month will be the Barrowford and Western Parishes Working Group on Monday, 6th September, at Barrowford Parish Council Offices.

The Brierfield and Reedley meeting will be held at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, 15th September, at Brierfield Community Centre.

The Colne and District group will meet at 6 pm on Tuesday, 21st September, at Colne Town Hall.

The Nelson meeting will be held at Nelson Town Hall on Thursday, 23rd September at 4 pm.

And the West Craven group will meet on Wednesday, 29th September at Bracewell Council Offices at 7 pm.

Meetings are usually held every six weeks. Venues may change to give more people the opportunity to attend.
