Colne's Alkincoats Park becomes Alice's Wonderland
Published Wednesday 28th July 10
Alice, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts are all coming to Alkincoats Park in Colne for a very special performance on Sunday 1st August.
Starting at 3pm there will be a free outdoor performance of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Say Two Productions.
Alkincoats Park has already hosted drama performances of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
Now it's the turn of Lewis Carroll's fairytale adventure.
Councillor Naeem Ashraf, Executive Member for Parks and Leisure in Pendle, said:
"Previous outdoor drama performances in Alkincoats Park have been really well supported by local people.
"We've had excellent feedback from people who told us that they really enjoyed having this fantastic, free entertainment on their doorstep.
"We're expecting plenty of people to turn out for this year's performance of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', a story that's been made famous again this year thanks to Tim Burton's film.
"The event gives people yet another brilliant reason to get out into the park this summer - bring your family and friends!"
This drama performance is completely free, thanks to funding from Pendle Council and the Colne and District Area Committee.
Colne Town Councillor Ann Kerrigan, who has helped to bring the play to Alkincoats, said:
"Anyone is invited to come and enjoy the drama - it promises to be a fantastic afternoon.
"You can join in the singing and dancing, or just sit back with a picnic and enjoy the show.
"Bring a picnic blanket or your own chair, as chairs won't be provided at the event."
Straight after the drama performance, from 4.30pm, there will be an interactive drama workshop for young people based on the Wonderland story.
Younger children can get into the spirit of the performance too by having their faces painted.
