Get To Know Your Neighbours At Colne’s Big Lunch
Published Wednesday 14th July 10
Colne residents are being invited to a meal with a difference - a one-day get together with your neighbours!
They're welcome to join The Big Lunch on King George V playing fields (off Skipton Rd) in Colne from 12pm to 3pm on Sunday 18th July.
Local residents are asked to bring a food contribution - if possible Fair Trade food - to the event to share, whilst they meet up with other local residents.
It's one of a series of Big Lunches across the country.
The Big Lunch is a national event started by Cornwall's Eden Project. Last year saw over 1 million people join in across parks, streets, lanes and estates all over the UK.
Anji Stokes, Neighbourhood Health Worker, and Louise Hoole, Assistant Community Development Officer from Pendle Council's Neighbourhood Management Team, have organised the Colne event.
The lunch is also supported by the Pendle Partnership, the Co-operative, Colne Neighbourhood Police team and Byron Road Youth Club.
Anji said: "It's going to be such a great day. The response we've had from local people is so amazing."
Louise added: "We've made sure there'll be plenty to do for every age group. Whether you just want to have a cake and a cup of tea or try something new, like face-painting for the children, sharing food is a great way to get to know each other.
"You'll enjoy it -food, music and laughter tastes, sounds and feels better with others!"
Colne's Big Lunch hopes to be a Fair Trade event, with Colne Fair Trade Forum and the Colne Co-op offering Fair Trade snacks and recipe cards.
A spokesman from the Eden Project said: "We know that when people get together, we become more positive. By simply having some fun on one day in July, we can build new friendships that we can enjoy for the rest of the year. We believe the world can get better by working together, with nature, optimism and common sense."
