Armed Forces Day 2010
Published Friday 25th June 10
Armed Forces Day is Saturday 26 June 2010. Show your support and attend one of the events being held locally.
The day is an annual opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, and from veterans to cadets.
Across the country people are getting involved: communities are holding local events and businesses are showing their support.
In Pendle, the Council is supporting the event and the Nelson and Colne Royal British Legion Clubs will both be hosting events locally.
In Colne, vintage military vehicles will be on display in the car park of the Royal British Legion Club on Keighley Road. Local cadets and veterans will be providing static displays and there will be free musical entertainment with Miss Maria Manchetser and her sounds from the Forties. The event is free and starts at 11am.
Nelson's event will be opened at 11am by the Worshipful the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle at the Heritage Centre in Barrowford. There will be fun activities for children and exhibitions by the police, fire service and armed forces including a high rope course and a flight simulator. There will also be a drumhead service at 4pm.
