Festive decorations
Overview
Pendle Council provides festive decorations each year, with additional decorations provided directly by some of the town and parish councils.
Each year sees over one hundred column-mounted decorations, 50 trees above shops, 20 wall-mounted displays, 25 church stars, canopy-mounted icicles, a Nativity scene and many other decorations provided across the towns and villages of Pendle.
The planning for the festive season starts almost as soon as the previous one has ended, allowing an assessment of the highlights and disappointments and where improvements can be made.
Meetings take place between February and April with representatives from each of the five area committees, the Council's Engineering and Special Projects department and LITE, the company which supplies and erects the decorations. A report is then presented to each area committee by July detailing the proposals for the forthcoming season. Tenders are invited for the supply, erection and removal of Christmas trees in early October.
Because of the number of decorations and the many locations involved, it is
necessary for contractors to start putting up the decorations at the end of
October so that the decorations are ready to be switched on towards the end of
November.
