What is the Environmental Action Group?

Pendle's Environmental Action Group was set up five years ago. The group helps to improve the appearance of many run-down, derelict, and unsightly parts of Pendle.

More than 5,000 people have benefited from the group's work including people who use the Millennium Green in Colne, Brierfield Peace Garden, and Nelson's Quarry Hill Nature Reserve and Hodge Hut.

Who can work for the Environmental Action Group and what can they get from it?

We employ young people between the ages of 16-24.

Most of the work is undertaken by (mainly young) unemployed people who are studying for an NVQ qualification whilst learning practical skills such as landscaping, tree planting, fencing, footpath making and walling. More than half the people leaving the project have gained an NVQ during their six-month placement and 50% take up full time employment.

Who will they be working for?

The beneficiaries will work for the Environmental Action Group, which is funded by the European Fund and involves Pendle Borough Council and Pendle Partnership.

Do they get paid?

Members of the team receive a weekly wage and with good attendance a weekly bonus.
