European Union flag
Pendle Twinning Association aims to foster international friendship and understanding through links with other towns and countries. It has been in existence since 1973 when the first link with Creil in France was set up. In 1994 a link with Marl in Germany was established, Marl already being twinned with Creil. Through the link with Marl, the Association also has informal connections with Bitterfeld in Germany and Herzlia in Israel.

The Association is a voluntary organisation. It receives a small grant from Pendle Borough Council, but otherwise relies on raising its own funds and and the efforts of its members.

Much of the Association's work is directed to helping groups and organisations to pursue contacts with similar groups in Creil and Marl. Often these take the form of mutual exchange visits but exciting new possibilities are starting to open up via the internet. The association has a small amount of money available to help people set up contacts.

Anyone is welcome to join the Pendle Twinning Association as an individual or representing an organisation. Membership is free and we meet about once a month, usually on a Monday or Wednesday at 7.15pm, in Nelson Town Hall.
