About Twinning
Pendle Twinning Association
Pendle Twinning Association aims to foster international friendship and understanding through links with its twin towns in France and Germany. It has been in existence since 1973 when the first link with Creil in France was set up. In 1994 a link with Marl in Germany was established. Marl was already twinned with Creil.
The Association is a voluntary organisation. It receives a small grant from Pendle Borough Council, but otherwise relies on raising its own funds and the efforts of its members.
Much of the Association's work is directed to helping schools, sporting organisations, clubs and other organisations to pursue contacts with similar groups in Creil and Marl. Often these take the form of exchange visits but exciting new possibilities are starting to open up via the Internet, particularly for schools. The Association is keen to support exchanges between people/clubs in our twin towns. Please contact Joanne Eccles on the number below if you would like any more information.
This year the Twinning Association is supporting a trip to Morocco organised by Creil and sending five young people and two adults from Pendle to join in an international seminar and contributing to their flights; contributing towards two young people attending a summer school in France in July; and sending a small group of young performers to Marl in July for the town's 75th Anniversary celebrations.
Anyone is welcome to join the Pendle Twinning Association as an individual or representing an organisation. Membership is free. Meetings are held every 6-8 weeks on a Wednesday evening, usually at 5.30p.m. in Nelson Town Hall.
