Applying for a hackney carriage licence
Introduction
A hackney carriage is more commonly called a taxi and can be hailed at a hackney carriage rank or in the street.
All hackney carriages in Pendle are red in colour and have a meter fitted. The driver is not allowed to charge more than the fare shown on the meter. A table of fares is available to download.
The Council has a limit of 71 hackney carriage licences, all of which are currently issued and therefore no more licences can be issued at this time.
What we need
A completed application form, compliance certificate issued by one of the Council's approved testing stations, insurance certificate, vehicle registration certificate (V5/C) and the appropriate fee for four months, six months or one year are required when making your application.
