Information

Parks and Recreation Service maintain the grassed areas throughout the Borough.

We maintain grass within the following areas:

●          Our 11 parks
●          Our 16 Open and Closed Churchyards
●          Public open spaces
●          Memorial Gardens
●          Our sport pitches including our 10 bowling greens
●          All grass verges and hedgerows around Pendle's highways

We do not maintain grass that is:

  • Privately owned
  • On private housing estates
  • On Housing Pendle Property

We do not:

Collect grass cuttings on the majority of the grassed areas (except bowling greens and certain lawn area within our Parks)

How often do we cut the grass?

Flower bed in a Barrowford parkThis can vary dependant on weather conditions.

We aim to start cutting grassed areas from 1 April each year and aim to cut on a fortnightly basis throughout the summer and through to the end of September.

Our ornamental gardens, recreational pitches, particular our bowling greens are cut on a weekly basis.

Herbicides

We aim to use a Herbicide which contains a hazard free label making it safe to use for not only the operators, but the public, wildlife and pets.

Weeds

The contract for weedspraying streets and relevant footpaths commences from April - September dependant on weather conditions.  Again, only environmental friendly chemicals are used.

All of our collected grass cuttings are recycled by ourselves and the recycled compost is then used throughout our parks.

Our aim

Our aim is to ensure all of the Borough's grassed areas are maintained to the highest standards using the most environmentally friendly products and machinery.  Wherever possible we use suitable machinery to prevent any damage to the grassed areas.

We endeavour to cut grass throughout the summer irrelevant of weather conditions, however, very inclement weather particularly prolonged heavy rain could prevent us cutting and maintaining these areas and could result in a backlog with our schedule.

Problems

We welcome feedback from the public with regard to the maintenance of our grassed areas as this always helps us improve our service.
