About Street Lighting
Report a Fault
Since July 2006, Lancashire County Council has been directly responsible for maintaining street lighting columns and illuminated highway signs within Pendle (although some street lights are maintained by Housing Pendle [external link]).
To report a fault to Lancashire County Council, please telephone their Customer Service Centre on 0845 053 0011 or use the online form [external link].
Please have available:
- the number of the column (usually shown on a yellow sticker), or the number of the property it is located outside or opposite
- the road it is on
- the town
- the nature of the fault (eg "not lit", "flashing", "switching on late", "door off, wires exposed")
How long will it take to fix?
Usually within five working days.
(A door off a column is regarded as an emergency call-out and is made safe within two hours.)
I've seen columns out for longer than that. Why haven't they been fixed yet?
Where a street light has been out for a while (sometimes months), this is because of a service failure.
A service failure means that there is a problem with the electricity cable supplying the column, and this must be investigated and repaired by the electricity company (United Utilities or Yorkshire Electricity); Lancashire County Council is not permitted to work on these.
Once a service failure has been diagnosed by the repair team, it is passed to the appropriate utility company by the Street Lighting Engineer. Lancashire County Council has no control over when the work will be carried out.
