Canal Corridor Development Project
Pendle's Canal Corridor
The Leeds and Liverpool Canal is an important corridor through Nelson and Pendle. Nelson and Brierfield in particular are seeped in history associated with the cotton industry and the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
The section of canal through Pendle is beautiful. Greenberfield Locks, Lower Park Marina, Foulridge Wharf, Wanless Bridge near Colne, Greenfield Road, Barrowford Locks. These are all well known beauty spots. Unfortunately, less people are aware of the section through Nelson and Brierfield and yet this part of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is equally attractive and interesting due to its industrial background. This beautiful resource on our doorstep is underused and undervalued.
We would like to turn this around. The industrial section of the canal is probably the most interesting and the canal and associated cotton industry is one of the reasons why Nelson exits.
