What happens when we receive your application?

Appealing against your planning decision

View pages in this section

An appeal can be lodged against a refused decision, or against the conditions of an approved decision which the applicant believes to be unreasonable. An appeal can also be lodged if a decision is not made within the required timescales. These are eight weeks for minor applications, and thirteen weeks for major applications.

Appeals must be made to the Planning Inspectorate, and an appeal can be submitted online.

Appeals must be made within 6 months of the date of the planning decision notice.

Further information

Once the Planning Inspectorate have received Appeal forms, and provided a start date for the Appeal, the Council will notify in writing all those advised of the original application and will outline the process to be followed.

All comments made on the application are copied to the Planning Inspectorate, and all those involved in the original decision are given a further opportunity to comment in writing or make representations at a hearing or inquiry into the appeal.

Once the Planning Inspectorate has made a decision, the Apellant, the Council, and anyone who has asked to be notified will be informed of the outcome.
