Flea treatment
Before we can do a treatment you need to make payment and carry out the following:
Before our visit you must:
- Eradicate the fleas on your dog/cat before we can treat your home.
Two to three days before the officer's visit, the animal should be treated with a flea product purchased from a vet, pet shop or supermarket. You must show the officer which product you have used - Ensure all pets are out of the property and have no access until after the officer has treated
- Wash all bedding, including your pet bedding and blankets at 60°
- Remove clothes, shoes and clutter off ALL floors and furniture
- Thoroughly vacuum all carpets, your pet's bed and anywhere your pet sleeps or rests. Pay particular attention to crevices and the edges of carpets. EMPTY VACUUM in an outside bin AFTER EVERY USE
- Strip beds to enable treatment of the mattress and hang the stripped blanket/duvet over a banister or door
- Cover or store away toothbrushes
- Cover food or store it away. Cover any cutlery and put any crockery away. Cover fish tanks with cling film and sheet or blanket. Turn off fish tank pump
- Turn all pilot lights off (i.e. boilers)
- Cover smoke alarms with a plastic bag fixed by an elastic band. DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE AFTER TREATMENT
- Make sure all windows are closed.
After our visit you must:
- Keep out of the property for at least two hours (this includes all animals and birds). Fish tanks pumps must remain switched off for at least two hours after treatment
- Wipe down ALL surfaces in kitchen and bathroom before use
- Do not walk around barefoot until all floors are dry
- After three days thoroughly vacuum carpets, soft furnishings, your pet's bed and anywhere your pet sleeps and rests. EMPTY VACUUM in an outside bin AFTER EVERY USE. Repeat every other day for the following two weeks. NOTE: Fleas may still be seen up to 2 weeks after treatment has been carried out.
