Voting in elections
Elections - Forward Plan 2012 - 2014
Scheduled elections usually take place on the first Thursday in May. A poll will only take place in the stated area if there are more candidates than there are seats available.
The timetable for scheduled elections - Borough Council, County Council, European Parliament and Parish Council - up to 2014 is as follows:-

There will be 16 Borough Wards with elections

The above Borough Wards have TWO Councillors representing the Ward but only ONE seat will be subject to election.

NOTE: Parliament is elected for a maximum period of five years. However, the Prime Minister may request the Monarch to dissolve Parliament any time within that term, forcing an election to be held. When a Parliamentary election takes place on the same day as combined district and parish elections, the parish elections are postponed for three weeks.
