The Trim Trail

Exploring your local park is an excellent way of improving your health and well-being. Taking a brisk walk through the park burns the same amount of calories as a run over the same distance. It is an activity that the whole family can enjoy and best of all, it’s free.

Walverden Park’s Trim Trail routes are designed to allow the user to pick and choose the level of exercise which they feel comfortable with.

Just follow the waymarkers for your selected route:

  • Red – Hard,
  • Yellow – Medium,
  • Green – Easy

This Trim Trail was developed following an initiative by the Friends of Walverden Park, with financial assistance from the County and Local Ward Councillors and was supported by ourselves and Pendle Leisure Trust.

Wildlife

The park also plays host to many resident birds including Great spotted woodpecker, House sparrow and Tawny owl. On the woodland floor the Grey squirrel can often be seen. Spring is the best time to see flowers such as wood anemone, bluebell and forget-me-not.

Many species just pass through the park on their way to somewhere else this can be at various times of the year. These include birds such as the Dipper, Starlings and Goldfinch. If you're really lucky you may catch a glimpse of a Sparrowhawk as it rapidly flies through the park in search of prey.

The park also has a small pond and wetland area that has become a vital habitat for frogs and toads. Several species of wetland plants can be found in the area such as flag iris and bog bean.

Disabled Facilities

Many of the paths and walkways are suitable for people with low mobility.

The playground offers facilities for disabled users.

Friends Group

Walverden Park has a very active Friends Group who work alongside us maintaining the high standard of the park and help organise events and activities within the park itself.

The Friends of Walverden Park in conjunction with the Parks Outreach Team are extremely proactive in getting involved with planting events to improve the parks appearance, and are keen to involve local schools to promote the importance of looking after the public parks.
