The Pollution Prevention and Control Regime

Permitting of Industrial Processes

View pages in this section

Certain industrial processes are required by the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999 to obtain a permit to operate. The permit sets conditions, which stipulate how the process should be operated to comply with legislation and government guidance to protect the environment from pollution.

The "Public Health - Pollution" section of Pendle Council's  Environmental Health Services is responsible for issuing permits, inspecting and enforcing compliance with permit conditions for a number of processes within the Borough.

The Environment Agency also regulate some industrial operations within our area.

More information about their work is available at the Environment Agency's website.
