Pendle Borough Council

Strategic Development

Parks and Recreation

Management are committed to taking Parks and Recreation forward and improving the quality of service delivery through the development of new policies, strategies and plans.

Since the introduction of the original Parks Strategy in 1998, a more strategic approach to the delivery of facilities and services across Pendle's parks, playing fields, open spaces, play areas and cemeteries has been forthcoming.

The Parks Strategy was deemed a huge success and was recognised as the main catalyst for change, enabling key developments such as the securing of a £1.8 million investment from the Heritage Lottery Fund and other agencies for the restoration of Marsden Park.

All our strategic documents provide a vision, core principles and values, key issues, strategic objectives, priority actions/recommendations and a review and monitoring framework to strategically guide future design, provision and enhancement of Parks and Recreation in the future.

All strategic documents relate to, and are developed in accordance, with the Council's Corporate Strategic objective's of:

  1. Successfully engaging and leading our community (Localities and Communities)

  2. Achieving successful regeneration and sustainable development (Sustainable)

  3. Delivering accessible services of good value and good quality (Successful)

They also take in to consideration, and make a significant contribution to, a number of the Council's Sustainable Community Strategy objectives (2008-2018).

Parks & Recreation currently have two core strategies in place.

  • Children's & Youth Play Area Strategy 2006 - 2016
  • Parks Strategy 2007 - 2017

In addition to these, seven Management Plans have recently been introduced as parrt of the Green Flag Awards for Alkincoats Park, Marsden Park, Barrowford Park, Heyhead Park, Valley Gardens and Victoria Park and Walverden Park. These plans outline how Parks & Recreation will manage, maintain and develop these Parks over the next ten years.
