Grants for Environmental Action in Lancashire

Green Partnership Awards

Green Partnership Awards (GPA) are a partnership between Pendle Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, United Utilities and the Environment Agency.

Green Partnership Awards assists groups and individuals to carry out projects to improve their local environment.  It does this by providing both money and advice.

Grants are available to all groups and organisations, as well as individuals and are awarded in the region of £400 - £500.

What projects do we support?

  • Practical environmental improvement projects - their development, implementation and celebration.
  • Projects that develop awareness and educate on environmental issues, such as training course, production or materials and events.

To be eligible for a grant, a project should aim to make a lasting contribution to improving the local neighbourhood and not just be a quick fix.

Examples of past funded projects

  • Community gardening and planting schemes
  • Community consultation events
  • Promoting and encouraging wildlife, e.g. ponds, wildflower meadows
  • Production of leaflets and handbooks

Lancashire Trees and Woodlands Grant

From June 2010 Lancashire County Council will be launching their new Lancashire Trees and Woodlands Grant (LTWiGs).

The aim is to encourage and assist landowners and community organisations implement small scale tree planting projects to increase Lancashire's tree and woodland cover. In addition to the visual improvements trees will make, the trees will capture carbon dioxide to help reduce the effects of the emissions from the treatment of our domestic waste. We have a priority to plant trees as part of woodlands that will grow on to maturity.

There are opportunities for grant payments to be made to other forms of planting but this may not cover all the costs, our priority will be:

  • New small scale woodland planting
  • Urban tree planting
  • Hedgerow planting in association with woodland planting
  • Orchard planting
