Memorial Safety Inspections

View pages in this section

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has requested that all Councils inspect ALL memorials once every five years to ensure that the memorials are safe.

During our recent inspections, we have discovered a number of memorials which have been tested and are now deemed unsafe.

What to do if you discover your memorial has failed the safety test

Please do not attempt to remove the temporary make safe system as the memorial may fall causing injury or damage to the memorial or surrounding memorials.

  1. Please do not attempt to remove the temporary make safe system as the memorial may fall causing injury or damage to the memorial or surrounding memorials.
  2. Do not attempt to repair the memorial yourself as all memorials must be re-fixed to the British Register Accredited Memorial Mason (BRAMM) standard.
  3. As owners of the burial rights the responsibility for the cost of reinstatement of the memorial lies with yourselves.
  4. A council registered memorial mason can be found at http://www.bramm-uk.org/
