Changes that affect your benefit
Changes meaning you qualify for additional benefits
Sometimes a change in your circumstances may mean that you are entitled to additional benefits. For example, if you are a lone parent receiving Housing Benefit and you decide to look for work, you may be entitled to Jobseeker's Allowance. If you don't make a claim for this, you will lose your entitlement.
Changes meaning you no longer qualify for a benefit
If you receive benefit and the change in your situation means that you no longer qualify, you must tell the department that pays you the benefit. Benefit fraud is taken very seriously, and punishments include fines and withdrawing benefits from persistent offenders.
