All About Local Housing Allowance
What is Local Housing Allowance?
- It is a new way of working out Housing Benefit (HB) and replaces Rent Officer Referrals for tenants who rent from a private landlord. It will apply to new claims or changes of address made on or after 7 April 2008.
- Customers will receive a Local Housing Allowance based on the area in which they live and the number of occupiers in their property.
- As with Housing Benefit, Local Housing Allowance will be subject to a means-test. Payments will normally be made to the tenant rather than the landlord.
