Private Water Supplies
Sampling of private water supplies
Under the Private Water Supplies Regulations 2009, Pendle Borough Council is obliged to sample the quality of private water supplies. A private water supply is water obtained from a borehole, spring, well or reservoir, in other words not from the mains supply.
The Regulations set out the frequency of sampling, depending on the size and use of the supply. For example, a supply serving a cafe will be tested more frequently than a supply serving a private household.
We will do a full survey of the supply and then decide which laboratory tests need to be done. The full list of parameters that may be tested for is shown here.
The Council charges for work done to ensure the safety of private water supplies. Please see the full list of fees by following this link.
You will usually be notified of the results within 14 days for bacterial tests and within 28 days for chemical tests.
If you would like to arrange for a private water supply to be tested, please call the contact centre on 01282 661199 or email environmental.pollution@pendle.gov.uk.
