Pendle Borough Council

Food waste recycling collections in Pendle

Suspension of the Food Waste Service

Why has the Council decided to suspend the scheme?

There are uncertainties over the future of food waste processing facilities being available in Lancashire and also the scheme costs £100,000 per year to operate. This is a big saving to the Council at a time when we need to cut costs as part of the spending review.

When will the collections stop?

The last collections will be made in the week 24th - 28th October, on the usual day of collection.

What do I do with my containers (green outdoor caddy/silver indoor caddy)?

You may keep them and use them for whatever you wish, e.g. as a storage container.

Will the Council take my old container(s) away?

No - please reuse them wherever possible.

What do I do with my food waste after collections have stopped?

You should dispose of any waste food in the grey refuse bin as you did before the scheme started.

We will be encouraging people to join in with the "Love Food Hate Waste" campaign that looks to reduce the amount of food waste created by providing tips on how to shop smart and recipes that make the most of leftovers. Follow this link to find out more: www.lovefoodhatewaste.com
